How to choose a cornhole team name
- Easy to call out. At a tournament the organizer reads names over a speaker or from a bracket board, often outdoors and over music. Short names survive that; long ones get mumbled.
- Keep it clean. The game’s name invites crude jokes, and many leagues, bars and charity events refuse those names or rename the team for you. Corn puns get the same laugh with none of the trouble.
- Check the event rules. Fundraisers, school events and company picnics often ask for family-friendly names because children and parents are watching. Bar leagues are looser but still have limits.
- Be the joke yourselves. “Short Again” and “Off the Board Again” are funny because every player has been there. Names that mock your opponents or any group of people start the wrong kind of trash talk.
Where your cornhole team name appears
Your name ends up on the tournament bracket (paper or app), league standings and sometimes on a screen at a bar. Brackets printed on a whiteboard and bracket apps both run out of room fast with long names, and the cut-off depends on the app or board. Every name here is 30 characters or fewer, and most are under 20.
Matching shirts are popular at cornhole events. A two- or three-word name can be printed big on the back and read from the other board, 27 feet away under regulation rules.
Cornhole words that make good names
Cornhole uses cancellation scoring: a bag in the hole is worth 3 points and a bag on the board is worth 1, your points in a round cancel your opponent’s, and the first team to reach 21 wins under standard rules. That gives you a ready-made set of name ideas:
- Airmail: a bag that goes straight in without touching the board.
- Slider: a bag that lands on the board and slides into the hole.
- Four-bagger: all four of a player’s bags in the hole in one round.
- Cancellation: perfect for a tough-sounding team (“Cancellation Crew”) or a funny one (“Canceled Plans”).
- 21: hence “Blackjack” and “Twenty-One and Done”.
Tips for corny puns
- Corn words fit lots of phrases: kernel for colonel or the computer term, maize for maze, stalk for stock, shuck for shock.
- Bag and board words work too: “Bags to Riches”, “Chairmen of the Board”.
- Say it out loud before you register. Cornhole is the one game where an innocent pun can sound rude when shouted; if it does, pick another.
How we tested
We wrote and reviewed every name by hand and left out anything with a crude double meaning. An automated Node test then reads this page’s list and checks that no cornhole team name appears twice (ignoring capitals and punctuation), that none is longer than 30 characters, that every style has names and that no name contains a list of crude words we screen for. It runs the 10-name generator 1,000 times and checks every set has 10 different names, checks that each style filter returns only that style, and runs the cornhole mixer 800 times with and without a partner name and town, checking every result is unique and within the limit. HTML typed into the boxes is shown as plain text. We have not tested the names at a real tournament.

Frequently asked questions
Why are there no rude cornhole names here?
Cornhole is one of the easiest games to make crude jokes about, and plenty of lists online do. We left those out on purpose: many leagues and charity tournaments reject them, families play at tailgates and fundraisers, and the corn puns are funnier anyway.
What is a good name for a two-person cornhole team?
Most cornhole is played in pairs, so a name about a duo, or one that uses both partners’ names, works well. Type one partner into the first box of the mixer and the other into the second box, and you get names like “Aw Shucks, Jamie” alongside corn puns.
What do airmail, slider and four-bagger mean?
An airmail is a bag that drops straight into the hole without touching the board. A slider lands on the board and slides in. A four-bagger is all four of one player’s bags in the hole in one round, worth 12 points before cancellation. They make good names because cornhole players know them instantly.
Do I need a team name for a backyard game?
No, but a bracket at a party or fundraiser is far more fun with names on it than with “Team 1” and “Team 2”. Press Generate once per team and let each pair pick from their 10 names.
